Chemical peel consultation

Chemical peels are often performed in conjunction with a face lift to deal with fine lines and wrinkles not addressed by the surgical procedure. Although chemical peel may be performed in conjunction with a facelift, it is not a substitute for such surgery, nor will it prevent or slow the aging process. However, a chemical peel will make skin look fresher and younger.

During your consultation, your surgeon will ask about your health history and any previous skin treatments you have had. You will also discuss the various kinds of peels available and whether you will be able to take time out of work to recover from your procedure. Expect your plastic surgeon to explain the planned procedure in detail, including its risks and benefits, and  the recovery period. If you have a history of herpes, you should inform your physician prior to the procedure. A herpes attack in the time after your treatment can lead to scarring. Preventive medication will avoid this risk.

For individuals with fine line wrinkles, uneven skin pigmentation, facial blemishes and other problems chemical peels can restore your youthful appearance. Chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers.

Trichloroacetic acid (TCA)  is used for this purpose. The precise formula used is adjusted to meet each patient's needs.

In addition to improving skin appearance and texture, chemical peels may also remove pre-cancerous skin growth, soften acne scars and control acne. In some cases, health insurance will cover the procedure.

Chemical Peel

(TCA Peel)

Chemical peels use a chemical solution to remove the damaged outer layers of the facial skin improving the texture, clarity and overall appearance of your skin. Revealing a younger you.

What to Expect during your Chemical Peel Treatment

The chemical peel usually takes no more than 20 minutes, requires no anaesthesia and you go home the same day. Typically, the skin is first thoroughly cleansed. Then, your plastic surgeon will carefully apply the TCA solution. You may feel a stinging sensation as the peel solution is applied, but this feeling will quickly pass. Two or more TCA peels may be needed to obtain the desired result, and those may be spaced out over several weeks.

After Your Treatment

A TCA peel may also cause mild swelling, depending on the strength of the peel used.
